USBDRIVE and FAT32 with FreeDOS

The intent of this forum is to discuss my DOS TSR programs (available at http://bretjohnson.us), how they work and don't work, new/missing features, status of updates, and anything else related to them that may need to be discussed.

USBDRIVE and FAT32 with FreeDOS

Postby Bret » Fri Jul 24, 2009 3:47 am

I just uploaded a new version of USB drive to the web site (http://bretjohnson.us), which hopefully fixes all of the problems that USBDRIVE was having with FreeDOS and FAT32. Please try it and let me know whether it works or not for you.

Hi at all,

see to be on the right way to solve the problem with freedos fat32
I've download the new kernel from:

http://fdos.org/kernel/ke386f32.zip

And the new usbdrivers from home page.

I've tried my 6 usb flash disk they have fat16 ,fat16lba , fat32 , fat32
lba with full success.
Also my nikon digital camera it's accessed with no problem.
Continue to dont't work my trust usb hub with 4 ports with attached more
then 1 device (usbdrive recognize ONLY FIRST device and not the others).

Good work Breth!!

Many thanks

What does the output of USBDEVIC look like when you try to attach more than one drive? Also, post the output of USBHUB S. What happens if you try to attach some other type of device (mouse, keyboard, whatever) to another port at the same time as a disk?

I'm beginning to suspect your problem might be power-related, and the host controller in the computer is not be producing enough current to drive the hub and all of the other devices at the same time. Have you tried using a self-powered hub (one that you plug into the wall)?

Solved !

i've loaded usbuhcil, connect the hub without pendrive , load usbhub and
then usbdrive x:64 .Now i've connected 4 disk : 2 fat32 lba and 2 fat16.
All disk was recognized from freedos.

Note : old program like norton commander don't diplayed the drive letters
assigned from usbdrive.

All work fine now : )

I have similar problems once in awhile also. In theory, you should be able to install either the software or the hardware first, but sometimes it doesn't work (USB is very flaky that way). At least you figured out a solution.

I don't use Norton Commander, but when I do use a file manager I use one called File Wizard, and it works just fine. It can also work with Long File Names.
