AMD USB controller keyboard support

The intent of this forum is to discuss my DOS TSR programs (available at http://bretjohnson.us), how they work and don't work, new/missing features, status of updates, and anything else related to them that may need to be discussed.

AMD USB controller keyboard support

Postby andrejk » Tue Jan 22, 2013 7:16 pm

Hello,

Great project. I hope it is just what I am looking for. My old barcode scanner died and I had to buy a new one. Sadly it is only USB based and now I need to make it work with an old AMD PC running DOS.

This is what usbhosts.com shows:

But no other .com file loads. I guess it is because of EHCI and OHCI type of controller. Do you perhaps maybe have a test version with support of also this kind of controller that I could try?

Thank you.

You are correct -- the drivers won't load because the hardware is EHCI & OHCI. No test versions of EHCI or OHCI available yet.

One option would be to buy an aftermarket UHCI host controller, assuming you have a spare PCI slot on your motherboard. Another might be to try Georg Potthast's drivers (http://www.dosusb.net), but they aren't free.

Whether you use mine or Georg's, you'll probably need to write a custom driver, since as far as I know there are no DOS USB drivers for bar code scanners,

The PC is a tiny miniitx motherboard without option to add extension cards. And software from Georg is more expensive then buying two keyboard wedge cables for the bar code scanner. So I thing that is what I'll do.

Thank you for information. It is nice to see someone still coding things for good old DOS.

Every wireless mouse/keyboard I've tried has worked, no installation necessary.
Try a different mouse and keyboard, or a different otg cable.
